How-to: Customizing Tables or Fields with Exact Extender

Introduction

It is now possible to add customized fields at several maintenance or entry screens in Exact Globe with the help of Exact Extender to meet your specific business needs. This document explains the usage of Exact Extender in customizing tables and/or fields with examples provided. The following steps are involved:

  1. Creating customized table
  2. Entering data in customized table
  3. Defining fields in standard table
  4. Entering data in customized fields at maintenance screen
  5. Adding fields to layouts

Description

The following explain the usage of Exact Extender in customizing tables and/or fields in Exact Globe:

Creating customized table

  1. Go to Add-on/Extender Tool/Database editor, and click New to create customized tables. In this example, we need to create a customized table, namely “Interest” to enter the values. Samples of the values are:
    • “Yes, send me a leaflet”
    • “No, no interest”
    • “Call back later”
  2. Type “CSCTInterest” as the table name and “Interest in new products” as the description and click Save to return to the previous screen.
  3. Click Save again to save the changes made. This may take some time for the software to create the new table in the company data.
  4. After saving and restarting Exact Globe, a new menu path Add-on/Extender Tables/Interest in new products is displayed. Texts that you have typed at Description are now displayed as part of the menu path. For every customized table, a menu path will be created. For more information, see Working with Database Editor and Creating and Maintaining Tables.

Note: You may skip this step if a customized table is not necessary in your situation such as if you want to enter information manually or if you want to use existing data from other tables.

Entering data in customized table

You can use the values defined in the customized table as options to be selected at customized fields at the maintenance or entry screen. This is explained in the following steps. For more information, see Entering Data in Customized Tables.

Defining fields in standard table

You can add customized fields to specific maintenance or entry screen by defining these customized fields in the appropriate standard table. For example, we want to add new fields to the accounts maintenance screen (either for debtor accounts or creditor accounts). As such, we need to define the customized fields in table Accounts.

  1. Go to Add-on/Extender Tool/Database editor, select the table Accounts and click Open.
  2. Click  to add new fields. In this example, you need to create three new fields in the table Accounts:
    • First field — Date of the last contact.
    • Second field — The employee who has the last contact with the account.
    • Third field — Interest shown by the account.
  3. Fill in the following sample values to define the fields and click Save to return to the previous screen.
